Compress Image to 1MB

"Maximum file size: 1MB" is the classic upload wall — job application portals, government forms, CMS uploads, and support ticket attachments all use it, while your phone shoots 4–8MB photos. This tool re-encodes your image just under 1MB at the highest quality that fits, which for most photos means no visible change at all.

Frequently asked questions

Will compressing to 1MB reduce my photo's quality?

Rarely visibly. 1MB comfortably holds a sharp high-resolution photo; going from a 6MB camera file to 1MB mostly discards data your screen can't display anyway. The tool always uses the highest quality that fits.

How do I compress to 1MB without changing dimensions?

That's the default behavior: quality is adjusted first, and dimensions are only reduced if a file can't reach the target otherwise — which almost never happens at a 1MB budget.

What about PNG files over 1MB?

Upload them here — the tool converts to JPEG during compression, which is how you get a photo under 1MB. If you must keep PNG format (transparency), reduce dimensions instead with our resize tool.
